Hours: Monday to Friday 9 a.m.  to 5 p.m.

Board of Directors meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM at the Chamber office, 112 E. S. First Street, Johnstown.  Members may attend Board meetings and present information by calling a Board member at least one week in advance of the meeting.

Position Description: Executive Director

The Executive Director (ED) position is an individual or individuals that serve as staff for the Board of Directors.  The ED generally performs administrative and organizational support for the effective daily operation of the Chamber.  The ED is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors.

A. Major Duties
1. Membership Relations
  • Acts as a liaison between the Chamber and Existing Membership. Meets with or contacts existing members throughout the year. Is the “face” of the Chamber to the Membership.
  • Works with the Board and community to help foster a positive business environment in both communities.
  • Regularly attends Town of Johnstown and Milliken meetings and events as Chamber Representative.
  • Regularly attends Business Networking functions in Northern Colorado area as Chamber Representative.
  • Addresses Membership concerns and questions in timely manner.
  • Assists the Board of Directors in promoting the Chamber and acts as a liaison between the Chamber and non-chamber businesses in the communities. Meets with or contacts non-member business throughout the year.
  • Assists Board of Directors in increasing the Membership of the Chamber.
2. Financial Management
  • Assists Board of Directors and Chamber bookkeeper in preparing and maintaining annual budget.
  • Assists the Chamber bookkeeper in maintaining the financial records of the Chamber. This would include assisting in preparing and mailing invoices for payment by Chamber members or vendors, maintaining the petty cash account, and working with the bookkeeper in making sure all payments for bills, deposits and records are made in a timely manner.
  • Assists the Chamber bookkeeper in preparing monthly financial report for Board of Directors.
  • Monitors expenditures by comparing to annual budget.
  • Assists the Board of Directors in actively pursuing new and additional funding sources for the Chamber.
3. Database Management
  • Insures that accurate membership information is maintained.
  • Prepares and mails welcome letters to new members.
  • Keeps website current and obtains training as needed.
  • Generates reports as needed by the President and/or Board of Directors.
  • Maintains email accounts and keeps email addresses current.
4. Support for President and Board of Directors
  • Assists the Board of Directors in organizing meetings, developing agendas, and providing needed documents.
  • Attends all Board of Director meetings to provide pertinent information as needed.
  • Advocates Johnstown/Milliken Chamber benefits.
5. Event Support
  • Assists in acquisition of necessary cash required for events.
  • Assists committees with information for event budgeting and planning.
  • Attends Community and Chamber Events as representative of the Chamber.
6. Office Support
  • Assists the Chamber Volunteer Coordinator in providing support to the office volunteer staff.
  • Orders office supplies and other supplies (welcome bags, member plaques, etc.) as needed.
  • Responds to public information needs and phone calls as needed.
  • Assists in acquisition of necessary cash required for events.
  • Maintains copier, computers, fax, telephones and other office equipment and orders necessary repairs.
B. Desirable Skills
  • Excellent customer service, self-management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with supervision and management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with e-mail and the internet.
  • Computer proficiency (skilled in the use of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Access with the ability to professionally format documents, import/export database records, perform mail merge functions, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicles.
C. Supervision
  • The ED reports to the Board of Directors.
D. Guidelines
  • The ED functions primarily independently using his/her own judgment based on experience and previous training. However, the Chamber by-laws, decisions by the Board of Directors, and daily communications with the President, officers, and members of the Board help guide the ED in performance of his/her duties.

November 4, 2011 Board approves Position Description and Salary.
November 7-17, 2011 Advertise the ED vacancy (Johnstown Breeze, Chamber Members, other Chambers, and word of mouth).
November 17, 2011 Vacancy Announcement closes and resumes are submitted by 5:00PM.
November 18-23, 2011 Search Committee completes review of all applications and narrows field of candidates (2-3 final candidates).
Nov 28 – Dec 2, 2011 Final candidates are interviewed by Search Committee.
December 6, 2011 Final candidates are interviewed at December Board meeting, selection made by Board.
December 7-9, 2011 Offer letter sent to new ED, Employment Agreement executed between Chamber and new ED.
December 12- 30, 2011 Training of new ED.
January 2, 2012 New Executive Director begins work.
